  Leon Kennedy    —  closest friend. the person luciel trusts more than anyone else. after everything that happened, leon became the one who helped him rebuild a life he never thought he would have again.  Chris Redfield    —  friend. their first impression of each other wasn't great, but things eventually changed. these days, luciel enjoys teasing chris whenever he gets the chance — usually about the time he thought luciel was still with umbrella.

  pieces of himself ;   luciel benavente left chile at seventeen to study forensic science in the united states, hoping to build a future for himself. two years later, that future disappeared overnight. while working on a forensic exercise, an infected corpse attacked, killing the only friend he had made since moving abroad. forced to leave, luciel eventually found refuge inside the r.p.d., where he met rookie officer leon kennedy.balancing on each other's strengths. leon handled what luciel couldn't—fighting, protecting, making impossible decisions—while luciel relied on observation, reasoning, and piecing together information others overlooked. by the time they reached nest, their paths split.after becoming trapped inside one of nest's research rooms, luciel was left behind as the facility collapsed. leon searched for him until the very end, but with no way to reach him, he was forced to leave believing luciel & ada had died alongside raccoon city.but, somehow— luciel survived.he became one of the few survivors of the raccoon city incident. while people like leon fell in ' good ' hands, and claire decided to find his brother, luciel fell into the hands of umbrella. recovered during one of umbrella's cleanup operations, he was given a simple choice: cooperate or they kill him. with nowhere left to go, he accepted. umbrella transferred him to one of its european facilities, where his little forensic background was put to use as a biological analyst. he spent the next few years performing autopsies on infected subjects, documenting viral mutations, and helping the company understand the very creatures responsible for destroying his and other people's life.the work slowly broke him. every report felt like another betrayal, every body another reminder of raccoon city. sleep became rare, memories began slipping away, and the faces of the people he once knew slowly blurred together. he struggled with constant guilt, recurring thoughts of suicide and self-harm, cutting himself became one of the few ways he could regain even the smallest sense of control over his own life, if only for a moment. convinced he deserved whatever happened to him. the only thing stopping him from giving up entirely was the hope that leon had survived too. survival stopped meaning living. it simply meant staying alive long enough to see the people he had lost one last time, even if they hated him for what he had become.when umbrella's russian facility fell in 2003, luciel surrendered without resistance. after years of wishing for death, he found himself unable to take his own life, instead leaving that decision to someone else. transferred into u.s. custody as a person of interest, he spent more than a year refusing to cooperate with interrogators. he barely spoke, barely slept, and answered almost every question with silence. the only thing he ever asked was whether leon kennedy was still alive.his insistence eventually reached the right people. after two years.when leon was finally allowed to review the case, he discovered that the man he believed had died in raccon city survived—and had spent years working for umbrella. the revelation left him confused, frustrated and unable to understand how everything had gone so terribly wrong. their first meetings were tense. luciel expected anger, disgust, even hatred. instead, leon listened.as the visits became more frequent, leon slowly pieced together what had really happened. luciel had never chosen umbrella; he had survived it. over time, leon became the only person luciel was willing to speak to, and those visits gave him something he hadn't felt in years: hope.even then, luciel never believed he deserved freedom. he saw himself as evidence more than a person, convinced that prison—or even death—would have been a fairer ending. leon refused to accept that. over the following years, he continued fighting for luciel's case, helping the government understand that survival and loyalty were not the same thing.by 2011, luciel was quietly released under government supervision and officially integrated into the d.s.o. as a biological analyst, occasionally consulting for both the d.s.o. and others organizations. although he prefers working behind the scenes, he is capable of operating in the field whenever necessary.luciel doesn't believe he's redeemed. he still carries umbrella with him. in sleepless nights, in laboratories that make his stomach turn. but, little by little, he begins rebuilding the life he thought ended during raccoon city. he doesn't feel fixed, and he doesn't feel forgiven. he simply keeps moving forward, hoping that one day surviving will finally feel like living again.

  CHINA      —  2013.  this was luciel's first on-field assignment. until then, he had mostly stayed behind a desk or inside laboratories, but the c-virus outbreak left little room for that. he spent most of the operation working alongside the d.s.o. and the bsaa, using his knowledge of umbrella's structure and research to track facilities, identify the c-virus, and support investigations on-site. it was also the first time in years that he met people outside the small circle he already knew. during the operation, he got to know sherry birkin, piers nivans & helena harper, and several other agents. it wasn't easy, but being around them slowly reminded him that not everyone looked at him as umbrella's former analyst. things with chris redfield were rough at first. because of his memory loss, chris believed luciel was still working for umbrella, making it difficult for either of them to trust the other. luciel never blamed him. if anything, he thought chris had every reason to be suspicious. umbrella, however, hadn't forgotten him. after surrendering years earlier, luciel was considered a traitor and became a target during the operation.  RACCON CITY   —   2026.  originally assigned to remain behind with sherry birkin due to the progression of raccoon city syndrome, providing biological support from a safe distance, luciel refuses to stay out of the operation and follows leon back into raccoon city, helping him make his way toward ark using his knowledge of umbrella's old facilities and viral research. as the mission continues, his raccoon city syndrome rapidly worsens. realizing he's becoming more of a burden than a help, luciel tells leon to keep going without him and finish the mission. despite not wanting to be left behind again, he knows stopping leon would only put grace's life at risk. later, luciel is recovered by the hound wolf squad before his condition deteriorates any further.
